Used LK-METRIS CMM
LK was a British based CMM Manufacturer that became part of the Metris Group and subsequently became part of Nikon Metrology in 2010. Their early machines were produced from granite; in later years LK switched their X and Y components to ceramic to lower their moving mass. LK Cameo software is DMIS compliant. LK originate from one of the very early pioneers of Coordinate Measuring Machines namely NOTSA Engineering. LK/Metris machines are strong stable structures and is one of the few manufacturers to resist the trend to aluminum for frame build. LK build a full line of CMM from small bridge models to some of the largest Gantry CMM structures ever built. LK is also very strong in automotive sheet metal inspection with their Horizontal Arm CMM units. LK was a division of Cincinati Milicron the once very large and famous USA Machine Tool Builder. If looking at purchasing a used all granite LK be wary of its weight and do not attempt to move the machine without expert advise. The same applies to the later ceramic machines; ceramic is brittle and the bridge cross beam can be easily cracked if the machine is not clamped, packaged and shipped correctly. Several 3rd party service oranizations exist staffed by ex LK technicians who provide machine relocations, machine installations and machine calibration namely Omnitech C-Con and MSS-I and of course Nikon Metrology have a large active service group.
